EM Adapter Firmware (V2)
You should NOT need to download V2.x.x firmware files directly from this page.
V2.x.x firmware is updated through EMSpy V2. If you're already on V2.x.x firmware, connect your adapter over USB and you should be automatically prompted to install a firmware update whenever one is available.
Alternatively, if needed, you can also manually download V2.x.x firmware files below.
If you're updating from V1.x.x firmware, please scroll down to see the migration steps.

Migrating from V1.x.x to V2.x.x
One-time process for adapters still running V1.x.x firmware
Devices running V1.x.x firmware do not yet have the V2 bootloader, so EMSpy cannot update them directly. You first need to flash the V1.10.0 migration firmware using the legacy EM Firmware Flasher. This is a one-time step - after that, all future updates are handled automatically by EMSpy.
Before you start, please make sure you have the CH340 driver installed. It is pre-installed on most machines. If the adapter does not show as USB-Serial CH340 in Device Manager, install it manually.
Part 1 - Flash the V1.10.0 migration firmware
- Download the EM Firmware Flasher and extract the files to a new directory.
- Download the V1.10.0 migration firmware for your adapter input type(s).
- Open the flashing software, and make a note of the available COM ports; it may be the case that none are yet available.
- Disconnect your adapter from the console if it is connected.
- Connect your adapter to your computer via the USB-C / micro-USB port.
- With your adapter connected, a new COM port should appear in the software for your adapter; select it.
- Select the V1.10.0 migration firmware file you downloaded in the software.
- Now connect your adapter to the console, and make sure the console is switched on.
- Put the adapter into firmware update mode: on the adapter, open the menu and select "Update Firmware" from the "Adapter Settings" menu.
Alternatively, you can enter programming mode by holding the button on the back of the adapter whilst plugging into the powered on console (see backup steps below for more information). - Click the "Upload" button in the software and wait for the process to complete. This should take about 20 seconds.
- Once complete, you should see a Migration Complete message on the device.
If you can't get this to work, you can also try the backup steps below.
Part 2 - Update to V2.x.x using EMSpy
- Download and install EMSpy V2.
- Open EMSpy and connect to the device - it should now report itself as V1.10.0.
- As soon as it connects, you should get a popup asking if you want to update to V2.0.0 (or later). Click to proceed with the update.
- If for whatever reason you aren't prompted, you can also manually download the V2.0.0 firmware from here, and choose Device → Update Firmware in EMSpy. You should then be able to select Update from file. Select the firmware file you downloaded to proceed with the update.
These steps put the adapter into programming mode using the button on the back, rather than the "Update Firmware" menu option. Use them if the adapter no longer boots, or if the normal steps above will not complete.
Backup Steps:
1) Download the flashing software and extract the files to a new directory
2) Download the V1.10.0 migration firmware for your adapter input type(s)
3) Open the software, and make a note of the available COM ports; it may be the case that none are yet available
4) Switch OFF your console, and connect your adapter to the console; it should be powered off
5) Connect your adapter to your computer via the USB-C / micro-USB port
6) With a thin object, hold down the button on the back of your adapter, whilst powering on the console
7) You can now release the button. If done correctly, the adapter should be in programming mode
Note: nothing will be displayed on the adapter even if done correctly
8) With your adapter connected, a new COM port should appear in the software for your adapter; select it
9) Select the firmware file you downloaded in the software
10) Click the "Upload" button in the software and wait for the process to complete
11) If the process fails to complete, try repeating from step 4 onwards
Note: The button must be held down at the same time the adapter is powered on in order for it to work
Important: Flashing the V1.10.0 migration firmware is permanent. Once flashed, the legacy EM Firmware Flasher will no longer work with your device, and you cannot return to V1.x.x firmware. All future firmware updates must be done through EMSpy.
Note: Only Wii VC Adapters (now called GC Adapters) with V1.x.x firmware need this step. Newer GC, N64 and Wiimote adapters are shipped with V2 firmware and the bootloader is already installed - you should be able to simply update using EMSpy.
V1.x.x firmware files and the legacy EM Firmware Flasher are available on the Legacy Downloads page.
Manual Firmware Download (Advanced)
EMSpy installs firmware automatically. Manual downloads are only needed for offline or advanced use.
Please ensure that you choose the correct adapter type before downloading!
