Component to RGB (YPbPr to SCART+VGA) converter

Description

This is an analogue video converter with:

  • 1 x Component Video Input (YPbPr)
  • 1 x RGBHV Video Output over VGA
  • 1 x RGBS Video Output over Euro SCART
  • 1 x 3.5mm Stereo Audio Jack for the VGA output
  • 1 x micro-USB port for 5V power supply

Accepts 240p,288p,480i,576i,480p,720p,1080i,1080p resolutions. HD resolutions are auto-detected with Rec 601/709 switching.

Video conversion is effectively lagless, as there is no frame or line buffering performed.

For the SCART output, the device has a switch for the status/aspect-ratio/auto-detect (pin 8). This toggles between on (@16:9 resolution) and off. For 4:3 signals, off is likely the best option.

It uses the same video conversion IC (LMH1251) as many other component to RGB video converters available, meaning the video quality should be comparible with other devices available.

The enclosure is 3D-printed in black PLA. The physical size of the device (with enclosure) is approximately 8.5 x 6.5 x 2.5 cm.

A typical usecase for this device would be converting 480p component video output e.g. from a Wii or PS2, into SCART for a CRT TV, or VGA for a CRT/LCD monitor.

This is NOT A SCALER. If you pass a 480p component video signal into the device, you will get a 480p RGB video signal out, which most monitors handle fine without any issues. However, if you pass 240i component in, you'll get 240i RGB out both the SCART and VGA outputs... If you're passing an incompatible resolution for your TV or monitor into the converter, it still will not display correctly.
